       |  |  Elgin/Franklin Wellhead Platforms Elgin/Franklin is the largest offshore high pressure and high temperature development ever undertaken. The difficulties of high pressure and high temperature wells had been individually overcome before but never the combination of both. £21 million alone was spent on research to develop and qualify components to withstand the extreme pressures and temperatures. In March 2002, the fields reached plateau production – 140,000 barrels of condensate per day (5.5% of current UK production) and 13 million cubic metres of gas per day (4.5% of current UK production), a combined total of 220,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Elgin/Franklin is therefore now a vital link in the UK domestic gas supply chain. | |
